I've been reading more dystopian fiction these days: my Kindle library includes "The Hunger Games", "Divergent", "Legend", and "Enclave". It's a saturated market, but Michael Poeltl's "Revelation" adds a new slant to the post-apocalyptic genre: salvation through enlightenment.

Eighteen-year-old Leif is born into a harsh world that still smolders from the Grimm Reaper's nuclear devastation. His mother Sara, an original survivor, and Blank Man, the guardian angel sent to cultivate him for his intended purpose, advise him that he has an important destiny: to guarantee the survival of mankind as it struggles to rebuild.

On one hand, Leif takes naturally to his mission, acquiring the necessary spiritual and philosophical awareness. But he's an eighteen-year-old youth, not a venerable sage, and impulses like love and fear make him question his fitness for the future challenge. While he struggles with uncertainty, danger materializes in the form of his mother's old enemy, Earl, who wants revenge with no prisoners taken.

"Revelation" is the third and final installment in Michael Poeltl's acclaimed "Judas Syndrome" series. I've enjoyed all three books, and am intrigued to see what he applies himself to next.

Leif is now a young man of 18 who is in contact with the same angel that his father, Joel, saw when alive--as well as other members of their group. To Leif, the angel is `Blank Man', because Leif has not given him a face; yet he protects Leif and tells him of his future in the world to come. The young man is a man of peace and always has been, spending much time in meditation and teaching others how to calm their minds. Leif has discovered' enlightenment', his ultimate goal. Blank Man tells him that is he is his father, taking his place, when his father could not handle the pressures placed upon him. When he relates this to his mother, Sara begins to worry for her safety of her beloved son.

Leif spends much time with the Chaplain of the compound, discussing spirituality, and although their ideologies are not the same, their friendship for each other is deep. The Priest senses that Leif is a special person on so many levels. While he's never been away from the compound, Leif does mandatory military surveillance trips . . . trips where he is more an observer, since the entire base has become aware that Leif is different and needs protection.

Nightmares begin to plague him, and his latest concerns Earl, whom he has not seen since childhood, after Earl's escape from the military prison. Leif warns his superiors that Earl leads a huge Army and will soon attack their base. Plans are made to have the civilians move to a hideaway, while the military devises an incredible stratagem to thwart this maniacal Army, now well-trained under Earl's guidance. Their scheme is grandiose and if it succeeds, they will have destroyed Earl's Army once and for all.

Author Michael Poeltl's talent as a writer shines as Leif continues his journey toward finding his purpose in life. The book races to a heart-pounding climax that will shock and surprise readers. This debut trilogy is a five star winner, reminiscent of `The Stand' by Stephen King and the twelve books of the `Left Behind' series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins Those enjoying this phenomenal trilogy will agree that Michael Poeltl is heading for the best seller list. It is one of the best series to surface in years.
