A sweet, gentle coming-of-age story for a girl, a group of her friends and the journey they take to fulfill a dead girl's dreams - even as small as they are.

There was something just so normal about this book. It was so simplistically real. I've read relatable books before, but this one was even more so. It felt like it could of been me. The simple things, almost dares, in this book weren't outrageous. They were everyday things - things that if you really wanted to break free of your shell - you would try. And, that is the simple beauty of this book - the realism. And it touched me even more to find out that it was finding a dead girl's list that gave Sophie the courage to be so much more than what she was.

It's easy to look back on your life, even as a teenager, young adult, new adult or even a fully grown adult and wish you'd had done the things you really wanted to do while you had the chance to do it. This is some of what the book represents to me. I'm kind of funny about contemporary books. We get along if I can find some kind of message in it. This one I did. There was a sense of fun about this book, and even a bittersweet kind of sadness. And they do stupid things, like all of us do at one time or another.

It's the relationships between the group that I adore. Every one of the characters has traits that make them so different from each other. They also have their own flaws. But they're flaws that enhance the personality of the character and which still make them extremely likable - well, some of them likable. Others - not so much. And some of the characters were so lovable - Johnny -sigh- Yeah, I developed a crush on that boy character.
I loved the voice of this book. The way it flowed, the words that were used and the feelings I got from it. Sadness, happiness, anger - it had all the 'feels' And the ending was just perfect - for me at least.

Overall, it was a really great read, with touches of the unexpected. I would recommend this to anyone who loves contemporary novels.

None of the Regular Rules eBook Erin Downing Reviews

Such a heart warming story about love and believing in your dreams. I really loved the ending and the message behind the story.
The storyline had potential but got bogged down and never quite took flight. Just nothing memorable really happens. The characters fall a little flat and all in all a little disappointing. Ends up being a cute quick read with nothing substantial to really stand out.
When Sophie discovers her dead aunt's to-do-list she decides it is a good idea to complete it along with her best friends. This is the beginning of a journey that leads to Sophie discovering love, the truth about what happened to her aunt and who her aunt was, and also who Sophie herself is. I laughed out loud at some points and also cried at others. Good book.
Sophie and her very different best friends find a list of dares in Sophie 's late Aunt Suzy's glove box. They decide to do the dares to live a little during their senior year. They find out it isn't so easy to do the dares and keep their friendship intact. There is also a certain boy named Johnny that Sophie is crushing on along the way and it is a bit complicated.
This book has an engaging story that will keep you turning the pages and looking forward to the fun, exciting, and sometimes touching moments as Sophie, Ella, and Grace deal with the "bucket list" they've discovered. You will love the writing...it's current, sometimes quirky, and often hilarious. The characters are lovable, memorable and ones that you can relate to. You will love this book, want to read it again, and recommend it to others.
I wanted to like this book. The blurb and reviews had me excited to read it - I loved the ideas of the list and the dares making life better and more exciting for three high school friends. Except once I started reading it, the friendship between the girls didn't seem very real, I didn't connect with any of the characters and the love interest didn't have any sparks for me. Also I didn't enjoy the resolution with her aunt's death or the way it was handled in her family.
I would like to point out that the cover of this book is misleading. Although there is romance in this book, None of the Regular Rules is more a book on friendship and self-discovery. I thought this book was definitely worth the read. It was a lovely story about lifelong friendships and discovering your true strength. That being said, I think a cover with a water tower on it or three girls jumping off a rock into the lake would have been a better and more truthful. Just my 2 cents.
