I LOVED IT! This historical romance has everything: Lust, love, action, adventure, mystery and even a little magic. This is actually a double love story. While mainly focusing on Marcie and Asterion, Dath and Sabrina get their turn too. Nhys did an excellent job writing each character, and keeping them straight. (I have read books where it seems as if the author forgets which "voice" is which, but not in this book!)
I was drawn into the story from the very beginning. As the story went on, it kept evolving in a way that had me so eager to see what happened next! Nhys included so many details that I could actually imagine living as the characters lived back then.
I absolutely loved Asterion and Dath. They are so different from each other, and yet they both make fantastic heroes.
The love scenes, both physical and not, between Marcie and Asterion and Dath and Sabrina, respectively, are so moving. I was nearly brought to tears several times.
I just loved everything about this story!!!
I'm trying my best not to spoil anything, but let's just say that a widow, a fire, a dream and true love converge to make this one amazing historical romance, and I am now a HUGE fan of Nhys Glover!

The Gladiator Bride edition by Nhys Glover Romance eBooks Reviews
I was given an ARC and am thoroughly grateful for it!
Oh goodness, where do I start? Well, I loved it for so many reasons.
I’m new to Ancient Rome novels, but am fascinated by the history. So reading this from a historical level was such a treat, learning more about Roman traditions, as well as Britannia’s ancient traditions. I was floored by the depth of history in this story. But that’s making it sound boring, which it’s anything but. Ms. Glover seamlessly drew me into the story while glimpsing at the past. Loved that aspect of it.
Now to the story itself From the moment I began reading about Sabrina, the healer, I was hooked. I loved this part of the story, where Sabrina saves Dath/Daedalus when they are children. They are separated immediately, but they never forget each other. So sweet!
Daedalus is eventually sold to a noble Roman family that is heavily in debt. It’s his job to fix this, which he does. As he works for the family he grows to love the artistic by shy Marcia, who is just a girl when another boy slave is sold to their family. Daedalus watches the two become the best of friends and feels even more like a proud father. But eventually Marcia and Asterion, the slave boy, grow up and begin to have feelings for each other. They decide to explore their feelings for one another and they fall in love. Unfortunately, you can imagine the ramifications of falling in love with a slave, and when Marcia’s father finds out Asterion is whipped. Marcia tries to help him from her father, but her father is in a rage and accidentally knocks over a lantern, lighting a barn on fire. Marcia is left scarred, and Asterion is sold again.
I won’t lie to you. This is a deep story, full of all the human emotions. It was a lovely journey from darkness and despair to traveling back to Britannia where there was redemption and joy for all the characters. It was a very happy ending!
So, yes, the story is very deep, emotions running the gamut, loved the historical elements, OH!, and I loved the healing aspect of the story. Not only does this story have the theme about Sabrina being a literal healer, but this story delves into the human heart and how to heal that, sometimes, broken muscle. Loved it!
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily reviewed this book. This is my honest review.
The Gladiator's Bride takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotional and intellectual stimulus! The love stories between Asterion and Marcia, as well as Dath and Sabrina are set again the backdrop of the Roman Empire and their iron grip on the colonies. The interesting thing is that the historical setting was almost as gripping as the love stories that were being woven into the events of the day. The book was incredibly well researched which gave credence to the characters who played their parts well.
In today's environment, one understands that Marcia's shy, artistic personality would need to be nurtured and directed in a way that the young protegé could both express her talent and have some balance in her life. Dath recognised the need to protect and nurture Marcia's artistic temperament, but was hampered by the mores of the day that forbade Marcia as a noble to paint, as well as Dath's role as a slave in the household. In some ways the love that developed between slave and child was even more touching than Marcia's later love for Asterion. The connection between Dath and Sabrina formed a thread throughout the story and their fated meeting gave both of them the strength to hold on when events turned against them. I loved that the story brought out both good and bad in all the cultures that were depicted and that goodness was able to bring healing in its wake. I found it interesting to note that whilst artistic ability in today's world is almost revered, it was relegated to the domain of slaves in Roman times, but at the same time dreams, omens and healing gifts were acceptable, abilities one would rather keep quiet about in this day and age! The more I read, the greater my appreciation for the comforts and structure we enjoy in the 21st century, realising of course, that we have the Romans to thank for the basic rules of society that we have today.
An exciting, emotional read that left one with a sense that justice prevailed and that Cupid had found his target!
. wow, how low can you go before you can see a ray of hope, pretty low? But in the end true love wins!!!!
