I found this to be a well written tale of a whirlwind marriage that turns into something more. Jamie Sinclair is that brand of tortured soul that hides behind charm and cutting remarks and it is a pleasure to see him brought down a peg or two by someone who can see through his wiles. The authors voice is fresh, the setting one unusual for romance, the historical details interesting without bogging down the romance and the love scenes are nicely done. The only thing I disliked were the many separations between the h/h. I thought the last one was one too many. Overall, a good read and highly recommend reading these authors backlist.

So much history and love to conquer. Courtly intrigues, family loyalty and senseless deaths. When does one say, " enough" ?! Well, in this story, both hero and heroine go through a journey where they find out that answer. A very well written story and an adventure I found myself immensely engrossed in reading.
What an intelligent, historically fascinating, romantic and moving book. Not to mention original. I adored the main characters. Jamie was precious, a wounded soul but pragmatic and fun loving and never mean or cold. But pretty fierce when it came down to it. Cat was very real, strong and brave and also fierce but still a woman. She was more than just a hoyden in breeches, I can say that much. This novel was a journey (there is lots of "road time" for those that enjoy that, which I do) in many ways. The characters grown realistically, fall in love unwillingly but are helpless to stop it. They are one of my top favorite pairs in this genre, no doubt. If you want some more solid story from a romance novel, read this. Oh and it's good and spicy too, btw.

After escaping in the midst of battle and being recovered by her family, Catherine has to tell her family that Jamie forced her to marry him while in captivity . This angers her highland clan because they have hopes of her making a family alliance with another clan. And so begins the tale of Catherine and Jamie. The book started out a little slow for me but after a couple of chapters the book picked up and was a really enjoyable read, Typically when reading romance novels by the time your to the end you feel worn out by characters and are ready for the book to end, but not so with Jamie and Catherine I really hated to see it end and it left me wondering what the future held for these two. Wont regret buying this one !
A wonderful story about a man that was just a man, and that is saying a lot. Surviving abuse and the adversity of every changing politics the hero manages to retain his soul and love a woman. I feel sorry for the woman that gave this a low review saying she didn't like the hero. She must not have good luck with the men in her life, because this is a man that any of us may meet and grow to love in real life. Its a nice fantasy to think there is a man out there that can control any situation or battle, coming out on top and sweeping us off our feet and into passion. But true love is loving each other weaknesses as well as strengths and saving each other. This is a love story for all of us, not just Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
This is the third Judith James book I have read. I enjoyed it and will be reading the remaining ones as well. I love the history, as I knew next to nothing about the Restoration period in England. The book seemed to be well researched. I liked the characters very much. There was perhaps too much tension for me, as it seemed to take Forever for Cat and Jamie to discover how much they cared for one another. I will add that the book could have used one final edit. "Discreet" and "discrete" were used interchangeably throughout. Other examples off of; between he and I. Nitpicky perhaps, but things like that throw me out of a story. I recommend this book if you like history, an unusual romance, great characters and witty dialogue.
Highland Rebel was a very satisfying read. The heroine was particularly wonderful and I loved her warrior ways, her wit and intelligence. I had mixed feeling about Jamie. On the one hand he was very appealing, but at the same time, he used witty banter, humor and nonchalance to keep people at a distance and it became wearing after a while as it went on for most of the book. However, I do love how Judith James let's her characters get to know each other so well and really fall in love with each other through mutual respect, admiration and camaraderie. Their feelings for each other go much deeper than the typical romance novel.

There is a great deal of adventure and political intrigue here as well. At times, the historical details take over and can become a little tedious. But they do add a lot to the telling of the story and are a strong backdrop for the characters to interact in.

As always, JJ gives us lots of passion, sexual tension and steamy sex scenes. This adds so much to the chemistry between the main characters and keeps things interesting. )

I am a big fan of Judith James and will look forward to more of her work in the future.
