Midnight Awakening The Midnight Breed Book 3 Lara Adrian Books
I was kind of disappointed in this one, which is a first for me when it comes to the Breed. And when I say disappointed, I mean I'm hesitant to get Lazaro's story now since it's also a novella (I'm realizing I prefer the novels; I mean come on I'm still hurt Gideon and Savannah were cheated with a novella). I felt there were more unresolved and open issues by the end of the book. SPOILER ALERT: For example, who is the Breed that Nova is raised by that has her detesting them when she meets Matthias? That's never answered. If she isn't a target, what's the purpose for so many of the killed men with her family's symbol being in the same city? I assume she isn't from there. Again, this isn't resolved. Those were the two biggest issues, especially given her complete 180 within a matter of 12 hours. I accept the whirlwind relationships that take place; this one just seemed a lot faster even for a novella. With that said, I truly appreciate that Nova and Matthias don't seal the deal at the end. Thank goodness for Nathan's story. I'm back in the game.Tags : Amazon.com: Midnight Awakening (The Midnight Breed, Book 3) (9780553589399): Lara Adrian: Books,Lara Adrian,Midnight Awakening (The Midnight Breed, Book 3),Dell,0553589393,9780553589382,Gothic,Romance - Fantasy,Romance - General,Paranormal fiction,Psychic ability,Romance fiction,Romantic suspense fiction,Vampires,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,FICTION Fantasy General,FICTION Gothic,FICTION Romance Fantasy,FICTION Romance General,FICTION Romance Paranormal General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction-Romance,General Adult,MASS MARKET,Romance,RomanceModern,Romance: Modern, vampires; paranormal; paranormal romance; romance; midnight breed; lara adrian; urban fantasy; fantasy; warriors; aliens; fantasy books; murder; adventure; romantic; genre fiction; action; supernatural; fantasy romance; romance novel; dark fantasy; supernatural romance; alpha males; romance fiction; romantic fiction; alpha bad boy; urban books; urban fiction; paranormal mystery; paranormal fantasy; dark romance; paranormal urban fantasy; urban romance; urban fantasy romance; supernatural fantasy; romantic fantasy, vampires;paranormal;paranormal romance;romance;midnight breed;lara adrian;urban fantasy;fantasy;warriors;aliens;fantasy books;murder;adventure;romantic;genre fiction;action;supernatural;fantasy romance;romance novel;dark fantasy;supernatural romance;alpha males;romance fiction;romantic fiction;alpha bad boy;urban books;urban fiction;paranormal mystery;paranormal fantasy;dark romance;paranormal urban fantasy;urban romance;urban fantasy romance;supernatural fantasy;romantic fantasy;romance books,FICTION Fantasy General,FICTION Gothic,FICTION Romance Fantasy,FICTION Romance General,FICTION Romance Paranormal General,Fiction - Romance,American Light Romantic Fiction,Fiction,Romance: Modern,Romance
Midnight Awakening The Midnight Breed Book 3 Lara Adrian Books Reviews
This book really had no slow or boring parts as the previous book did. Tegan was frustrating most of the way through the book with his pushing away Elise most of the story. This one had quite a bit of excitement and Elise was more a part of the action than the other females have been in previous books. Again, romance, love and sex didn't happen until way past the halfway point which is a little disappointing. I love a HEA but so far, none of the books have looked back into the different couples to have babies and that would be awesome to read about them all having babies and raising them in the Order. Maybe Ms. Adrian will eventually tackle that project so I won't have this feeling of not having the whole story on the different couples. Babies always make the tough hot guys more human to the readers. On to the next in the series.
Tegan and Elise's second chance to happiness. Tegan's story couldn't have been better!! One of my favorites in Lara's writing are the strong females that she writes and boy did she write a strong female in Elise! Elise is a widow having lost her husband to a Rogue. Her whole life is wrong because of what the Merak and his Rogue nation have done to her family. She is determined to fulfill her promise to her family to avenge their deaths.
Elise is a Breedmate but she is also human therefore she can go out in the day time. Elise moves out of the Darkhaven where she lives and moves into a depilated apartment. Elise's curse/gift is that she can hear other human's thoughts. Using this curse/gift she hunts minions (human slaves made by Marek by draining them to a thread of their lives) and kills them. She always goes out during the day and is back in her apartment before dark. One day, in blood doused clothing, she doesn't make it back to her apartment before dark and is scented by two Rogues who immediately go after her. Tegan also scented her from the roof tops where he was hunting Rogues. When he found the source of the scent he immediately knew it was Elise. Tegan had given Elise a ride back to the Darkhaven where she lived on a visit to the Order's compound so he was familiar with her scent and attracted to her. Tegan interfered, saving her, and taking her back to her apartment.
Tegan was surprised how Elise's curse/gift affected her, especially since she had not fed from her mate in 5 years. Elise got horrific migraines because the voices in her head would not stop coming. Tegan was surprised how she had to live in order to be able to survive outside of the Darkhaven. After that their story begins. This is probably the most intriguing book so far. Just when you think the story has hit it's peak another unraveling takes you on another suspenseful journey.
As has been the case with all the books so far in this series the writing is flawless and flows beautifully. Characterization is three dimensional. All the characters are wonderfully written. We are introduced to a new character in this book that I absolutely loved.
On I go to read Rio's story. Already it looks very promising.
Highly recommended
Set in London, Lara Adrian's novella Marked by Midnight is a pre-cursor to her next book release, Crave the Night.
Mathias Rowan has been introduced in previous Midnight Breed books. Nova is the latest introduction as a breed mate.
Rowan and his team of Order warriors are investigating a string of dead bodies that turn up in the Thames River. His investigation leads him to a grungy tattoo shop where he crosses paths with the reticent tattoo artist, Nova.
Nova is standoffish and pretends to have no knowledge of the latest river victim but Mathias suspects otherwise.
In an attempt to bait her, Mathias comes back for a tattoo and gets more than he bargains for. Nova and Mathias are drawn to one another despite their initial reluctance.
Of all the love interests in the Midnight Breed Series, Mathias and Nova's story is the most intriguing of all. A tattoo artist with a dark past who has a connection to a group of dead men found in the Thames River and is a breed mate is stuff of good books.
Meeting Mathias is a reminder of a life she has worked hard to escape but their instant attraction is hard to ignore for either the upstanding Mathias or the ultra-secretive Nova.
I am a huge fan of The Midnight Breed Series. The style of writing, the multi-dimensional characters who aren't the typical broken alpha-males with horrid pasts, intriguing storylines with a wealth of bad guys and heroines with heart make for books that I can never put down and look forward to for months as I wait for the next installment to be released.
Marked by Midnight has all those elements but I was disappointed Mathias and Nova didn't get a full-length novel thereby leaving a large number of unanswered questions. I suspect future books will go back to Mathias and Nova's story but one can only hope.
If you are a paranormal romance fan, then you need to pick up this novella. I was definitely drawn but sorry to see the story end so fast. Definitely one of my favorite Midnight Breed couples.
My rating a must read!
